Filling Gaps & Preserving Oral Health

Chipped, cracked, or missing teeth can lead to a variety of oral health issues as they can make it difficult to effectively keep your teeth clean. By repairing structural problems with a dental crown or bridge, our dentists can help preserve your oral health.

Before either a crown or a bridge can be placed on your tooth, your dentist will need to remove some tooth material on its outer surface and shape it so that the restoration will fit snugly onto it without adding additional bulkiness to the tooth. Your dentist will then take an impression to provide an exact mould for the crown or bridge.

Using this impression, a dental lab will create your dental restoration. While your permanent crown or bridge is being created, a temporary crown or bridge can be placed to cover the prepared tooth. When the permanent crown or bridge is ready, it will be cemented over your prepared tooth.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a covering that encases the entire decayed or damaged section of the tooth, restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown can protect and strengthen tooth structures that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are made from various materials, including porcelain and metal, and function like natural teeth.

These dental restorations are durable, but they may eventually need to be replaced. Luckily, with proper care, they can last for 10 years or more.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a natural-looking tooth restoration that is used to fill the gap left by missing teeth. If not properly taken care of, missing teeth could lead to more serious dental problems, such as gum disease, in the future. Dental bridges help fill the space left by missing teeth, maintain facial shape, restore chewing and speaking ability, and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of their proper position.

The 'traditional bridge' is usually made of porcelain fused with metal. This common type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
