We are PROUD to ANNOUNCE that our office is able to provide I. V. SEDATION as Certified by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC after having completed a rigorous training and certification process.
Has your fear prevented you from completing necessary treatment as recommended by the dentist? Many people are surprised to learn how easy we can make it for them.
Our office offers the following options:
- I.V. Sedation a safe comfortable method where the patient is given the necessary dosage of required medications through an I.V. placed by the doctor. Although most patients will state they have ‘fallen asleep’, the medication allows patients to respond to instructions and answer questions, but creates an amnesiac effect so that the patient has no recollection of the procedure taking place.
- Oral sedation, which involves pills or liquid taken through the mouth. The medication allows patients to enter a state of total relaxation during treatment. Usually, patients also receive an injection of local anesthetic as well.
- Inhalation sedation such as nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas or happy gas). Often, your dentist will also provide a local anesthetic with laughing gas to avoid any pain.
Prior to I.V. or Oral sedation you will need to complete a very thorough medical history so we are able to dispense and choose the best medications for you. If you choose oral sedation, a responsible companion must accompany you to and from the visit. Your vital signs will be monitored throughout the procedure by the dental team using the same technology found in hospital settings. At completion of the treatment, a responsible adult will need to accompany you safely home. Depending on the treatment you receive, you should not plan anything for the remainder of the day and should be able to resume normal activities after 24 hours.
